Lithuanian National Foundation
2003 is a particularly meaningful year for the Lithuanian National Foundation.
This year marks the 60th year since the establishment of VLIKas, and with it
the informal begning of the Lithuanian National Foundation. For thirty years
funds were raised in various ways and from diverse sources. On April 4,
1973 the Lithuanian National Foundation was incorporated in
the State of New York. It has thus been
30 years that the Lithuanian National Foundation has been
operating as an independent non-profit organization which since 1974 has been
been operating free of federal taxation.

Foundation, Inc. Executive Committee Algis Vedeckas |
When Lithuanian regained independence the work of the
Lithuanian National Foundation, Inc. fundamentally changed as did fund-raising
capabilities and objectives. The clear objective of independence was
attained and many donors pondered the current goal of the Lithuanian National
Foundation, Inc.
The situation in Lithuanian changed dramatically and so
did funding priorities for the Lithuanian National Foundation, Inc. In the
early year of independence the focus of funding was the support for the
establishment of democracy. Now, after having three presidential
elections, joining the European Union and the upcoming joining of NATO it seems
that democracy has truly taken hold in Lithuania.
