Vision of the LNF in the 21st Century
With the new position of Lithuania in
Europe and in the world, the meaning of the LNF and its direction must
change radically from a struggle "against", to
a struggle "for" - for the development of Lithuania as a fully
recognized democratic country, for the integration of Lithuania into
the European Community, for
its preservation as an integral but individual country with its own
national consciousness.
This plan to support
high level goals must be carried out on different levels. By supporting
newspapers, which evoke democratic thinking, promote culture,
raise the level of education; by supporting education, especially those
schools, which are distant and somewhat removed from Lithuanian culture;
by maintaining the interest of American - Lithuanians in their native
country and urging their financial support for various noble projects.
One of these goals is to urge the establishment of more Lithuanian schools in Eastern Lithuania and the Karaliaucius "Koningsberg" region, because, through these schools, possibilities will arise to resurrect a feeling of national pride in these problematic areas. The LNF has sought and will continue to seek the development of a citizen community and democratic ideas built on the base of a lawful community; it will continue to promote self-pride in the people, the community and the country. It will strive to have Independence become a bulwark of strength and a foundation upholding Lithuanian and democratic statutes.
The LNF will strive to unite the nation and promote its culture, its language, its traditions.
We invite you to join the LNF,
to adopt a school, to support your favorite projects, to uphold a high
patriotic understanding. The LNF aims to continue being an
organization whose intentions are "national" - Lithuania is free and it
must remain Lithuanian.
